The 'perfect' subject to encourage and reward '..do'n..!
When 'most' things are dun for us we get quickly 'bored'. Agriculture Technology teaches students that do'n is good and can reward us through enjoying hardwork, exercise and accomplishment. Be a do-er NOT a dun 4-Uer!
Continued management and preparation of the Farm. Continued hot weather will require additional watering. Found maggots in the Snail Pens; soil was too wet, some snails dead, added some dry potting mix to absorb moisture, removed dead snails, removed maggots.
*Will try adding some worms to assist in maintaining soil health???
From our Canteen to the ferocious snails- the lettuce is about to be eaten alive!
Did you know Snails have teeth? Agriculture and Aquaculture classes have a regular job to collect and feed our Pens and Ponds with scraps from our Canteen. Thanks Canteen!
Working successfully as a WHOLE class group to assemble a model of a Animal Enclosure. This model will be used to plan and build an appropriate sized enclosure for our poultry. Each team will be responsible for construction of their chook pen. We WILL be attending the Wyong Poultry Auctions (3rd Sunday of each month) @ Wyong Race Course. Teams will be given $20 to bid on their stock. The auction includes: fertilised eggs, newly hatched chickens, etc. AND ducks, geese, turkeys etc. Some interest has been shown by students in purchasing exotic poultry including Silkies (Chinese)...
Almost complete... replanting was shared between all students who moved plants from smaller/temp. pots to larger pots. Slow release fertiliser was added and all plants watered.
In response to the devastating fires throughout NSW, WA & VIC students have studied Farm Fire Safety. Both Class and Homework has required students to:
produce an evacuation plan (in conjunction with their family) for their house
create a poster outlining the preparedness required for threat of fire
Thanks to our Canteen for the supply of lettuce leaves for our Snail farm/s. We hope that one day we will be able to supply fresh, organic, hyroponic and aquaponic lettuce to our canteen?
A number of Chrysanthemums perished after planting. We transfered those surviving Chrysies in small pots to larger pots. We have begun to move our Chrysies from shade to full sun to 'harden' each plant. Thanks to all 'Wadalba Aggies' for their hard BUT rewarding work.
Plants were watered with a Seasol- Seaweed Concentrate mixture. This helps to reduce stress due to planting and heat, stimulates root development and resistance to drought, pests & disease.
